Abstract

Reusing a grammar written in one grammar formalism in a different grammar formalism typically requires a non-trivial migration. Several automatic migrations exist, but these are focused on preserving the surface (concrete) syntax (the set of sentences generated by the grammar). We have started the construction of grammar migrations that also preserve the underlying (abstract) syntactic structure. Concretely, we have constructed migrations from Xtext and LBNF to SDF3. We discuss challenges we observed in this construction, and discuss ideas for generalization.
