ECSA is committed to providing a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone participating in the conference. The open exchange of ideas depends on professional conduct, mutual respect, and an atmosphere in which all participants can contribute without harassment, intimidation, or discrimination.
This Code of Conduct applies to all ECSA conference activities, including talks, workshops, tutorials, meetings, social events, online communication channels, and informal gatherings connected to the conference.

Expected Behaviour
All participants, including attendees, authors, speakers, volunteers, sponsors, exhibitors, organizers, and venue staff, are expected to:
- Treat others with consideration, dignity, and respect.
- Be mindful that participants come from different countries, cultures, backgrounds, and communities.
- Discuss and critique ideas, research, and technical work rather than attacking people.
- Respect personal boundaries, privacy, and requests to stop a conversation or interaction.
- Help maintain a professional and welcoming environment for everyone.
- Alert the organizers if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or behaviour that may violate this policy.
Unacceptable Behaviour
ECSA does not tolerate harassment, discrimination, bullying, intimidation, or hostile behaviour in any form.
Unacceptable behaviour includes, but is not limited to:
- Abusive, degrading, threatening, or discriminatory language or actions.
- Harassment based on race, colour, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, national origin, marital status, pregnancy, medical condition, professional status, or any other personal characteristic.
- Unwelcome sexual attention, sexual comments, sexual imagery, or inappropriate physical contact.
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, or unwanted photography or recording.
- Sustained disruption of talks, sessions, meetings, or other conference activities.
- Retaliation against anyone who reports a concern or supports someone who reports a concern.
Reporting
If you experience or witness behaviour that violates this Code of Conduct, please contact a member of the ECSA organizing team, the registration desk, venue staff, or conference security. Reports will be handled as respectfully and confidentially as possible.
If you or someone nearby is in immediate danger, call 112 for emergency assistance in Italy.
Consequences
Participants asked to stop unacceptable behaviour are expected to comply immediately. The ECSA organizers may take any action they consider appropriate, including a warning, removal from a session or event, exclusion from the conference without refund, or referral to the relevant institution or professional body.
Attendance Policy
Accepted papers must be presented on site by one of the paper’s authors, so that questions can be answered during the session and participants can discuss the work with the authors. Presentations by non-authors are not acceptable unless explicitly approved by the organizers in advance.
Authors are responsible for making timely arrangements for registration, travel, accommodation, and, where needed, visa-related documentation. Failure to present an accepted paper according to the conference policy may result in the paper being excluded from the conference proceedings.
