Systematic Literature Reviews (SLRs) have become a popular meta-analysis method in Software Engineering (SE), helping researchers thoroughly identify, synthesise, and build upon solid evidence from the literature. Despite the benefits, designing and conducting SLRs in SE is challenging; issues arise from human aspects (e.g., lack of experience), economic issues (e.g., high time/eƯort consumption), or tooling ineƯiciencies (e.g., poor technical support). Santos et al. argue that the cause of those problems is multidimensional and, thus, cannot be solved by isolated solutions. Sustainability is proposed as a key concept to change the mindset of the SE community to develop SLRs that indeed should sustain over time, providing relevant support for academia/industry. However, operationalising the assessment of sustainability within SLRs is non-trivial; furthermore, the current literature lacks support for exploring/visualising/managing the tradeoƯs of researchers’ decisions with a broader vision. This session aims to discuss how to make SLRs in SE sustainable. Based on experts’ opinions, we can create a validated catalogue of tactics that make SLRs in SE sustainable. Furthermore, we aim to: (i) gather data to develop a set of sustainabilityquality (SQ) attributes (later adapted as a template for the SQ-model); (ii) observe interactions and tradeoƯs between the discussed tactics and quality attributes (QAs); (iii) explore possible measurements for QAs; and (iv) discuss the positive or negative impacts of tactics in SLRs. Finally, the data will be used to further develop a new version of the Sustainability Assessment Framework specialised for SLRs.
