UnCertaGator: Propagation of Uncertainty Information in Development Processes Using Consistency Automation
This program is tentative and subject to change.
Uncertainty affects the accuracy and reliability of development models and can lead to misalignments between design and system behavior. Specifically in large projects, where many teams with different expertise are involved, multiple semantically overlapping models must remain consistent. Also, information about uncertainty affecting the developed system, if not managed and appropriately propagated, can compromise system consistency. However, mechanisms to represent or manage such propagation do not yet exist in current approaches. Consequently, complex multi-team engineering is hampered in efforts to find a reliable automation in the propagation of uncertainty across engineering artifacts. In this paper, we propose UnCertaGator, a method for representing and propagating uncertainty in multi-artifact development processes through automated consistency specifications. Built on the Vitruvius framework, UnCertaGator enables consistent and traceable handling of uncertainty across models and artifacts. Our evaluation shows its potential to support early, automated uncertainty management in the development of complex systems.
