Towards a Readiness Framework for Agentic AI in 6G Software Businesses: Challenges and Adoption Pathways
The transition to Sixth Generation (6G) ecosystems introduces new complexity for software-producing organizations. Beyond achieving ultra-low latency and pervasive intelligence, 6G demands adaptability, interoperability, and trust in AI-driven decisions. Earlier research has highlighted these organizational and technical challenges, while our prior studies examined how agentic AI can motivate or hinder progress in the 6G software business domain. Yet, existing AI and software engineering maturity models remain largely unexplored in this context. They outline readiness stages in other domains such as DevOps and DevSecOps but fail to link concrete AI mechanisms to the challenges of 6G software enterprises. This gap leaves organizations without a structured pathway for turning theoretical insight into practical adoption strategies. To address this gap, this paper develops a foundational conceptual framework as part of a multi-phase research study. We build on two prior studies: a multivocal literature review that mapped the challenges of 6G software businesses and a thematic study that analyzed adoption motivators and demotivators. These datasets are synthesized through a three-step process: (1) extraction and clustering of high-salience challenges, (2) alignment with motivators and demotivators to identify tensions and synergies, and (3) extension with recent advances in agentic AI (2024–2025). The resulting adoption pathways integrate mechanisms such as low-code and full-code orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation for factual grounding, the Model Context Protocol for interoperability, verifier loops for governance, and mixture-of-experts architectures for efficiency. The contribution is twofold. First, we provide six adoption pathways and a guideline-based framework that map 6G challenges to agentic AI mechanisms. Second, we outline a roadmap for empirical validation through expert interviews and case studies, advancing toward a readiness maturity model. The framework offers researchers a conceptual foundation for readiness assessment and practitioners actionable strategies for staged and sustainable adoption of agentic AI in 6G software businesses.
