We are applying Software Engineering practices to map patterns, develop guidelines, and experiment with strategies that support the transition of established Research Software projects to sustainable Free Software projects. We focus on the case study of a research infrastructure serving a global audience that seeks to adopt Open Science practices to pursue the democratization of scientific production and foster broader access and reuse of methods and results.
