Serverless computing, or Function-as-a-Service (FaaS), is a leading approach for event-driven software systems due to its scalability and low operational overhead. However, traditional cloud-based FaaS is limited to single-organization governance, leading to trust dependencies, interoperability issues, and vendor lock-in in multi- organizational environments. To overcome these challenges, this study suggests using Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) smart con- tracts as a decentralized coordination layer that enhances existing FaaS systems. By focusing on shared, tamper-evident state tran- sitions, we propose a hybrid model that provides a zero-operator, always-on coordination mechanism, improving auditability, gover- nance, and long-term neutrality. The findings indicate that Ethereum- based smart contracts and traditional FaaS are complementary, with FaaS suited for high-throughput operational tasks and smart contracts serving as a neutral, auditable backbone for trust and coordination in distributed enterprise ecosystems.
