The First International Workshop on Automated Techniques for Integrity and Quality in Software-Engineering Research

With the availability of increasingly powerful tools to support conducting and reporting on software-engineering (SE) research, the submission counts to top tier SE venues increase dramatically, as also seen for ASE 2025 (graphic by Xovee Xu).

In order to ensure that this increase does not come at the expense of research quality, scalable and reliable automated techniques are needed to support academic peer review and publishing practices. These include traditional automated techniques, e.g., querying publicly available databases to validate the integrity of bibliography entries as implemented in the hallucinator tool, but also AI-based review support as implemented at the AAAI conferences and everything in between (e.g. TPMS for automating bidding and review assignment).

The goal of the workshop is to provide a platform for researchers working on or with such techniques.

Call for Contributions

We solicit contributions related to automated techniques for assessing and improving integrity and quality in software engineering research. Such techniques include, but are not limited to those that

• support academic peer review, including review assignments and review assistance
• support research artifact creation, evaluation, and preservation
• detect scientific misconduct (plagiarism and AI-generated content, hallucinated or unjustified references, simultaneous submissions, peer review collusions, etc.)
• perform compliance checks against community norms or publishers’ requirements
• validate the correct processing of camera-ready submissions by publishing service providers
• improve scholarly writing practice to reduce errors (e.g., via literate programming)
• improve type-setting and article presentation for better accessibility of the material

We welcome two types of submission formats:

• Tool papers and experience reports (6p + up to 2p references)
• Extended abstracts (2p including references)

Submissions

The workshop proceedings will be published in the ACM Digital Library and submissions must use ACM’s template: \documentclass[sigconf,review]{acmart}

All submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least two program committee members in a double-blind process.

All submissions must be made via the submission system by the submission deadline on August 7th AoE.
