The 2027 International Workshop on Engineering and Cybersecurity of Critical Systems (EnCyCriS) will take place on Sunday Apr 25 in the Convention Centre Dublin (CCD) in Dublin, Ireland. This marks the 8th edition of EnCyCriS at the ICSE conference.
For industrial critical systems, although the previous premises of increasing system interconnectivity, decentralization, and introduction of new, more intelligent technologies still hold true, there is an increased societal awareness with regards to cybersecurity. This has led to clearer regulation, sharper requirements, and higher expectations for industry. At the same time, the availability of readily deployable competence, methods, tools, and solutions is lacking, which should be considered a critical societal risk.
In the current international political climate, cyber security, and safety of critical infrastructures across industry, are more important than ever before. The EnCyCriS workshop facilitates discourse and discussion amongst researchers, practitioners, and students who are working on challenges and solutions related to industrial critical infrastructure. It has a particular focus on sharing industry experience and project results pertaining to cyber threats on critical systems, secure systems engineering, and attack detection and response mechanisms.

Call for Papers
We are delighted to announce the 8th International Workshop on Engineering and Cybersecurity of Critical Systems (EnCyCriS), organized in conjunction with the 49th International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE 2027). The EnCyCriS workshop provides a forum for researchers, practitioners, and industry stakeholders to discuss emerging challenges and solutions for the cybersecurity of critical infrastructures (CI), including energy, transportation, healthcare, water, and other cyber-physical systems. As critical infrastructures increasingly rely on interconnected digital technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML), ensuring their safety, security, resilience, and trustworthiness requires interdisciplinary approaches spanning technical, human, organizational, and operational perspectives. The workshop welcomes contributions addressing methods, tools, empirical studies, industrial experiences, and case studies related to cybersecurity in critical infrastructures. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Safety and security engineering processes and methods for critical systems and infrastructures
- Human, organizational, and socio-technical factors in cybersecurity
- Safe, secure, and trustworthy adoption of AI and ML in critical systems
- Digital twins, simulation, Hardware-in-the-Loop testbeds, and cyber range applications for cybersecurity
- Cyber risk assessment, detection, response, resilience, and recovery
- Operational cybersecurity challenges and industrial experiences in critical infrastructures
- Standards, regulations, education, workforce development, and cybersecurity competence
- Evaluation and validation of cybersecurity tools, techniques, and practices for critical infrastructures
This workshop highly values experience and lessons learned from industry, and academic papers where research projects have been applied in an industrial context.
Submission
We accept short paper of maximum 5 pages, and full paper of maximum 8 pages in the research, position, and industrial categories. The page limits must include all references, tables and figures. Paper exceeding the page limits will not be accepted. All submissions must be in PDF.
All submissions must conform to the IEEE conference proceedings template, specified in the IEEE Conference Proceedings Formatting Guidelines (title in 24pt font and full text in 10pt type, LaTeX users must use \documentclass[10pt,conference]{IEEEtran} without including the compsoc or compsocconf options). Note that IEEE format is being used this year, whereas last year it was ACM format.
Submissions must strictly conform to the IEEE conference proceedings formatting instructions specified above. Alterations of spacing, font size, and other changes that deviate from the instructions may result in desk rejection without further review. By submitting to the EnCyCriS workshop, authors acknowledge that they are aware of and agree to be bound by the ACM Policy and Procedures on Plagiarism and the IEEE Plagiarism FAQ. In particular, papers submitted to EnCyCriS 2027 must not have been published elsewhere and must not be under review or submitted for review elsewhere whilst under consideration for EnCyCriS 2027.
The official publication date of the workshop proceedings is the date the proceedings are made available by IEEE. This date may be up to two weeks prior to the first day of ICSE 2027. The official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings related to published work.

Registration
All participants, including at least one author per paper, workshop organizers, and invited guests, must register for the workshop through the ICSE webpage. At least on author per accepted paper must register by the camera-ready acceptance deadline. Reminders will be sent where possible. Registration of other participants is mandatory and must take place at least 10 days prior to the workshop We cannot guarantee participation after this date. Please note that the date of the workshop may be postpone according to the main conference organization between the 25th April and May 1st. The venue for ICSE 2027 is the Convention Centre Dublin (CCD), a world-class conference venue in the heart of Ireland’s capital city.
