Goals and objectives of this workshop

This workshop aims to explore and promote the understanding of responsibility in the software engineering domain, comprising software design, processes, and products. Besides identifying responsible roles, we seek to explore best practices, methods, and frameworks through which responsibility can be understood and transferred in the software engineering world, as well as elements that integrate responsibility throughout the software development life cycle. The intended objectives of the workshop can be summarized as follows:

• To explore, define, and operationalize the notion of responsibility across all stages of software engineering

• To explore how responsibility manifests and evolves across diverse technological and societal contexts.

• To offer opportunities for researchers to discuss future research aspects of responsibility.

Call for Papers

TYPE OF SUBMISSIONS:

The submissions could belong to any of the following categories, and the authors are required to self-identify the category of their paper during submission.

1. Research Papers (6-8 pages): Presenting completed original or primary research describing novel technical solutions, evaluations of existing methods, or empirical studies. Empirical studies can include experiments, case studies, surveys, user studies, or other qualitative or quantitative analysis.

2. Experience Reports (6-8 pages): Describing retrospective reports on experiences in applying responsible software engineering methods or techniques in practice, or addressing “responsibility” problems in real-world contexts. These papers focus on reporting the experience and give special attention to practical insights, lessons learned, and/or key takeaways and recommendations to the community.

3. Short papers (4-6 pages). Submissions include the following categories.

• Work-in-progress papers (with/without preliminary results): Papers that describe ongoing research or pilot studies, highlighting early findings and lessons learned.

• Exemplar papers: Papers that describe examples of challenge problems and illustrative solutions that the responsible software engineering community can use to motivate research, exhibit and evaluate solutions and techniques, and compare results.

• Vision papers: Papers that articulate future directions, conceptual frameworks, or community challenges in responsible software engineering.

• Position/Reflection papers: Papers that provide critical analysis or reflective insights on experiences, practices, or methodologies in software engineering.

• Interactive exercise/tutorial: Submissions designed to engage participants actively, teaching methods, tools, or concepts through hands-on or interactive sessions.

Format

All submissions must be original, written in English, and formatted according to the IEEE conference proceedings template. Submissions will be reviewed single-anonymously. Accepted workshop papers will be published by IEEE. The official publication date of the workshop proceedings is the date the proceedings are made available by IEEE. This date may be up to two weeks before the first day of ICSE 2027. The official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings related to published work. We follow a double-blind review process. Please dont include author names and identifying information in the paper.
