Bio:

Dr. Eduard C. Groen (or simply Eddy) has been working on Requirements Engineering in research and industry for over 15 years. He is a Senior Requirements Engineer at Fraunhofer IESE in Kaiserslautern, Germany, where he advises on the AI4SE strategy and coordinates research on Digital Sustainability. His work focuses on good Digital Design of complex systems, such as Digital Ecosystems, to address the challenges of sustainability in particular.

At the RE 2026, he co-chairs the Industry Innovation Track together with Andrea Wohlgemuth, and hosts the Industry Day on Tuesday. On Monday, he attends the 10th anniversary edition of the CrowdRE workshop as co-organizer and keynote speaker. On Thursday at 3:45 PM, he presents his journal-first paper on classiifying quality characteristics, and on Friday at 2:45 PM, Norbert Seyff presents on a collaborative RE@Next! paper.

In the RE community, he is best known for his research on Crowd-based Requirements Engineering (CrowdRE), which he coined at the REFSQ’15 and has published on in venues such as IEEE Software, JSS, RE, REFSQ, REConf, NLP4RE, and the CrowdRE workshop. He also leads the IREB Special Interest Group on Sustainability (SIGsus).

Eddy received his doctoral degree in Computer Science from Utrecht University, the Netherlands on CrowdRE, which was supervised by Professors Sjaak Brinkkemper, Fabiano Dalpiaz, and Jörg Dörr. He additionally holds a Master of Science in Psychology, with a specialization in Engineering Psychology, from the University of Twente, the Netherlands.

Eddy serves on the Program Committees of the RE, REFSQ, ICT4S and CHASE conferences, several conference tracks, and is a resident PC member of the NLP4RE, SEmotion, REWBAH und AffectRE workshop series. He is the incumbent Industry Innovation Track co-chair for RE’26, and was Posters & Tools co-chair for REFSQ’20 and Workshops co-chair for REFSQ’25. He has co-organized the CreaRE (2017–2021), CrowdRE (2017, 2019–2021, 2024), and AIRE (2018) workshops, and is a member of the Steering Committee for the CrowdRE workshop series.
