Author of the book What Every Engineer Should Know About Smart Cities (Taylor & Francis, 2023). Associate Professor at the Institute of Informatics (INF) of the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) in Goiânia since 2014. He served as the Coordinator of the Information Systems undergraduate program at INF-UFG from 2021 to 2023. He holds a Ph.D. double degree: one in Computer Science and Computational Mathematics from the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Sciences at the University of São Paulo (ICMC-USP), and another in Information Science and Technology (specialization in Computer Science) from the University of South Brittany, France. He has over ten years of teaching experience, having also held a tenured faculty position at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Goiás (IFG). He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science from INF-UFG. He is a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Computer Science at UFG, advising both Master’s and Ph.D. students. He served as a Higher Education Institution (HEI) accreditation evaluator for INEP-MEC (2018–2024) and acted as a reviewer for the appeals analysis of projects submitted under Brazil’s Information Technology Law for the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC) in 2020. Professor Valdemar has experience in organizing national and international events. He was the General Chair of the XI Brazilian Symposium on Information Systems (SBSI 2015) in Goiânia, Chair of the IV Workshop on Social, Human and Economic Aspects of Software (WASHES 2019), and founder of both the Workshop on Modeling and Simulation of Software-Intensive Systems (MSSiS, held annually since 2019) and the International Workshop on Blockchain-based Software Architectures (BlockArch, held annually since 2020). He was the Program Committee Chair of SBSI 2022 and the Steering Committee Chair of the Brazilian Symposium on Information Systems in 2023. He is also a member (2015–2017 and 2021–2025) and was Chair of the Special Commission on Information Systems (CE-SI) of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) during the 2018–2019 and 2023–2024 terms. Prof. Valdemar is also a member of the Editorial Board of iSys – Brazilian Journal of Information Systems. He was an invited keynote speaker at SESoS/WDES@ICSE 2021, the leading international workshop in his research area. His research and teaching interests include Software Engineering and Information Systems, with a focus on Software Development and Architecture. He has specific expertise in Model-Driven Software Engineering, Systems-of-Systems, Smart Cities, and Software Engineering for Information Systems. He also served as a representative of the Computer Science field on the General Education Area Advisory Committee (CAA) of the National Item Bank (BNI) for the 2020 edition of the ENADE exam (held in 2021), upon invitation from INEP. He is a member of the Brazilian Computer Society.
