My research develops methods and techniques for engineering AI-enabled systems that remain trustworthy, adaptive, and socially aware as people, goals, values, and operating environments change.
My work brings together requirements engineering, autonomous and self-adaptive systems, and human–AI collaboration. It has evolved from developing automated techniques for making incompatible software systems work together to exploring how systems can adapt to people, rather than expecting people to adapt to technology. For example, OASIS (RE2020) introduced a novel reconfiguration technique that enables software systems to adapt to variations in user behaviour, shifting responsibility from users to systems, and reframing robustness in socio-technical systems. Values@Runtime (ICSE 2023) enable systems to operationalise human values during their operation. IDEA (TOSEM 24) enables autonomous systems to reason about social identities and collective action.
My research has informed services and technologies developed with Age UK, Trilateral Research, and Cisco, including approaches that help people understand and strengthen their networks of support.
I’m an Associate Editor, an elected member of the IFIP Working Group on Requirements Engineering, SEAMS 2026 Program Co-Chair, and ICSE 2027 Software Engineering for AI Area Chair. I also co-founded ACM-W UK and mentor researchers at different stages of their careers.
I’m an engineer at heart: I love exploring new ideas, building things, and getting my hands dirty. I believe the best research combines curiosity, rigour, and real-world relevance—and that success is more meaningful when we help others succeed too.
