Name:Martin Henz
Bio:

In Academic Year 2011/2012, Associate Professor Martin Henz embarked on experiential education, by joining the residential section of the University Scholars Programme (USP) at the National University of Singapore, where he pursued multi-disciplinary engineering projects in collaboration with the Innovation and Design Programme (iDP) at the Faculty of Engineering. In his seven and two year joint appointments with USP and iDP, he learned to appreciate the value of experiential learning.

Experiential education lies at the heart of the Source Academy, a system developed by Martin Henz and his students since 2016. The Source Academy immerses students in a fantasy world and challenges them with missions and quests, all designed for enhancing their understanding the structure and interpretation of computer programs. Martin Henz and Tobias Wrigstad have adapted the book Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs (SICP) by Harold Abelson and Gerald Jay Sussman with Julie Sussman to JavaScript, and the result, along with the Source Academy, is currently used by all computer science freshmen in the introductory course CS1101S Programming Methodology.
