Join Us for the 8th Edition of the RE Cares Event!

What is “RE Cares” and how is it organized?

Since 2018, RE Cares is an established “Software Engineering for Social Good” event collocated with the RE Conference. It is organized as a dynamic and highly interactive event focused on collaborative software development to particularly address the needs of non-profit organizations local to the RE Conference venue.

Over three days, participants act as a team of Requirements Engineers and Software Designers, engaging directly with non-profit stakeholders (our “customers”) to collaboratively gather requirements and create a design specification during our all-day “design-a-thon.” After the conference, a smaller team refines and completes the results developed during this event.

What is the Objective of RE Cares@ RE2025?

This year, we are partnering with the Valencia branch of Caritas, an international charity organization. From September 1st to 4th, participants will work with Caritas representatives to gather and refine software requirements, developing initial solution concepts to enhance Caritas’ interaction and service delivery, specifically addressing the needs of the homeless people in Valencia. The schedule includes:

  • Monday, September 1st: “Kick-off” meeting with stakeholders to introduce and discuss the context, motivations, and current state (“as-is scenario”) from the customers’ viewpoint, followed by interactive requirements elicitation and creativity sessions among all participants.

  • Wednesday, September 3rd: Summary, review, and refinement of elicited requirements, Q&A with stakeholders, and preparation for the “design-a-thon.”

  • Thursday, September 4th: All-day “design-a-thon,” featuring collaborative co-creation and co-design sessions focusing on interaction concepts, database structures, and UI/UX wireframes for the envisioned solution.

Please check the RE program for detailed information about time slots and rooms)

Also don’t miss our talk about “RE Cares: Past, Present, and Future” on Thursday, September 4th (14:45 - 15:30).

All RE participants are welcome to join RE Cares. We particularly encourage students to join us. Check the RE Cares Website as we start to post early requirements and domain descriptions: LINK
