Feeling overwhelmed by the many new things you have to do as an Assistant Professor, or considering becoming an academic but don’t have a clear idea of what’s ahead?

You are not alone. Joining a university or a college as a faculty member can be challenging due to many reasons. As a junior academic, you will be juggling between many new tasks, such as writing grant proposals, conducting excellent research, developing new courses, outreach, and valorization; building your research group and supervising students at the bachelor, master, and PhD level; and executing managerial tasks you were probably never trained for. To make things worse, you will likely be the only academic with an interest in requirements engineering within your department. Your colleagues may ask you what RE is about and why conducting research in RE is significant and challenging. Or, notable differences exist depending on your country (perhaps a new one you just relocated to), institution, department, and research group.

The goals of the RE 2026 New Faculty Symposium (NFS) are to help new faculty members in the area of Requirements Engineering navigate this complex reality, and discuss strategies for managing these challenges while enjoying a job in research. The symposium will be a highly interactive event in which you will be able to discuss with peers at a comparable career stage, and you will hear success stories and gain advice from more senior colleagues.

The Symposium is open to new faculty members and senior doctoral students who are considering an academic career, as well as any other faculty member interested in learning more or sharing from their own experience! Join the third edition of the New Faculty Symposium at RE 2026 in Montréal!
