ISERN Sessions

ISERN is a community that believes software engineering research needs to be performed in an empirical context. By doing this, we can observe and experiment with technologies in use, understand their weaknesses and strengths, tailor them to the goals and characteristics of particular projects, and package them together with empirically gained experience to enhance their reuse potential in future projects. The founding ISERN members chose the Quality Improvement Paradigm as the reference model to provide a common terminology for their cooperation.

The ISERN community holds annual meetings, of which the next meeting will take place in Munich, Germany as part of ESEIW 2026.

This year, we especially encourage session proposals that engage with the broad theme of “Software Engineering in the Next Decade: What should empirical software engineering study, preserve, change, and lead?” We welcome interactive sessions that explore how software engineering may change or adapt in response to advances in AI, which core software engineering problems remain unsolved and worth continued attention, what new challenges the community should focus on, and how ISERN can position itself in the coming years.

Please note that ISERN session proposals may be submitted only by ISERN members or by invitation.

Submissions are due on 31 May 2026.
