Call for Proposals

The International Conference on Software Architecture (ICSA) is the premier forum for software architecture research and practice. ICSA welcomes proposals for tutorials and technical briefings to make the conference even more engaging and rewarding for participants from both industry and academia.

Types of Submissions

We are accepting three types of proposals:

• Standard Tutorial (180 minutes): Hands-on, potentially tool-supported experiences on a specific topic, encouraging active participation from attendees. Tutorials are delivered in two sessions of 90 minutes each.
• Short Tutorial (90 minutes): Hands-on, potentially tool-supported experiences on a specific topic or demos, encouraging active participation from attendees. Short Tutorials are delivered in one session of 90 minutes.
• Standard Technical Briefing (90 minutes): Concise introduction to emerging software engineering and architecture topics, such as practices for specific system types or new technologies. Standard Technical Briefings are delivered in one session of 90 minutes.
• Extended Technical Briefing (180 minutes): Comprehensive overview of a broader topic or domain of software engineering and architecture, such as empirical software architecture or techniques for intelligent software architecture design. Extended Technical Briefings are delivered in two sessions of 90 minutes each.

Evaluation Criteria

Proposal will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

• Relevance of the topic for industry and/or academia
• Timeliness and expected interest in the topic
• Audience appeal to attract a sufficient number of participants
• Delivery method to effectively align with the proposal (hands-on sessions, etc.)
• Presenter background to lead a successful session

Proposals focusing on extremely niche topics, commercial tool presentations, or marketing materials are outside the scope of ICSA. Submitters who are not sure about the suitability of their proposal for ICSA should check with the track co-chairs before submitting.

How to Submit

Proposals must be written in English, not exceed 2 pages in IEEE CS proceedings format and comply with the following structure:

• Title
• Name, affiliation and contact information of (all) tutorial instructor(s)
• Abstract (up to 350 words) for conference website (if accepted)
• Type of submission (Standard Tutorial, Short Tutorial, Standard Technical Briefing, Extended Technical Briefing)
• Description of topic, including details about the content of the tutorial or technical briefing
• Brief explanation of why topic is relevant to software architecture research and/or practice
• History of tutorial or technical briefing (if applicable), including previous venues
• Brief speaker information and biographies

For all submissions, include at least three representative sample slides (not included in the above 2 pages). For tutorials (hands-on sessions), provide details about potential exercises. Combine proposal, sample slides, and details about exercises (if applicable) into a single PDF with all fonts included. Proposals must be submitted electronically in PDF through EasyChair (select “Tutorials” track).

Publication

Accepted Tutorial or Technical Briefing presenters will have the opportunity to publish a 2-page abstract in the ICSA 2027 Companion proceedings. Abstracts must conform to IEEE formatting guidelines and should be submitted by the deadline.

Important Dates

• Proposal submission: December 20, 2026
• Proposal notification: January 19, 2027
• Camera-ready for proceedings: January 29, 2027
