Tool Demonstration and Data Showcase TrackICSME 2026
Call for Papers
Goal and Scope
The ICSME 2026 Tool Demonstration and Data Showcase Track offers a forum for researchers and practitioners to present software maintenance and evolution tools, and to share reusable datasets and artifacts created with long-term value for the research community beyond a single project.
We welcome submissions for both tools, ranging from research prototypes to industry-grade solutions, and reusable datasets. We particularly encourage submissions that complement papers accepted in the Research Paper Track, as well as artifacts whose code base, data, and/or development process are openly available to the community. Submissions should present artifacts that enable other researchers or practitioners to replicate prior work and jumpstart new research efforts.
Tool and dataset papers should clearly describe the architecture, implementation, and intended usage of the tool or dataset, including details on how others can access, apply, and extend the artifact in their own work.
Paper Types
A good tool demonstration paper should:
- fall under the topics mentioned for the ICSME 2026 research track;
- present and discuss a tool that has NOT been published before as a tool demo paper;
- discuss the relevance of the proposed tool to the ICSME community;
- report the motivation behind the tool, including typical usage scenarios;
- describe the tool’s novelty and how it relates to previous industrial or research efforts;
- describe the tool’s goals, requirements, architecture and explain its inner workings;
- NOT necessarily contain a (large-scale) empirical study of the tool, BUT any empirical results or user feedback are highly encouraged;
- consider the relevant literature;
- exhibit presentation quality.
A good data showcase paper should:
- fall under the topics mentioned for the ICSME 2026 research track;
- present and discuss a dataset that has NOT been published before as a dataset paper;
- discuss the relevance of the dataset to the ICSME community;
- report the motivation for creating the dataset, including typical usage scenarios and target users;
- describe the dataset’s originality and how it relates to existing datasets or prior research efforts;
- include a detailed description of the data source and the methodology used to gather, curate, clean, and/or generate the data, including provenance and tools employed (if any);
- describe the data format, storage mechanism, schema (if applicable), and access procedure;
- NOT necessarily include large-scale empirical validation, but provide examples of use cases, analyses, or research questions the dataset enables, and, when available, reference prior studies that have used it;
- discuss limitations, challenges, ethical considerations (when applicable), and potential improvements to the dataset;
- consider the relevant literature;
- exhibit presentation quality.
Evaluation
At least three program committee members will review each submission. The committee will review each submission on its merits and quality.
The Review Criteria for the Tool Demonstration and Data Showcase submissions are as follows:
- value, usefulness, and reusability of the datasets or tools;
- quality of the presentation;
- clarity of relation with previous work and its relevance to software maintenance and evolution;
- availability of the datasets or tools.
Paper Submission
To make a submission, please use the following link: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icsme2026 and select “Tool Demonstration and Data Showcase Track”.
You can select one of the following paper types: Tool Demonstration Paper or Data Showcase Paper.
If you are submitting a tool demonstration paper:
At the end of the abstract, include the URL of a 3-to-5-minute screencast, either with annotations or voice-over, that provides a concise version of the tool scenario(s).
The video should be publicly available online (unlisted YouTube, hosted on the tool’s website, etc.).
Recommended: Include the URL to an online live version of the tool in the abstract.
If you are submitting a data showcase paper:
Mandatory for data showcase: Include the URL to an online repository (e.g., Zenodo or Figshare) containing the dataset.
Submitted papers must comply with IEEE plagiarism policy and procedures. Papers submitted to ICSME 2026 must not have been published elsewhere and must not be under review or submitted for review elsewhere while under consideration for ICSME 2026. Submitting the same paper to different tracks of ICSME 2026 is also not allowed.
The tool demonstration and data showcase track is single-anonymous (i.e., authors will remain visible to the reviewers) to allow reporting on the tool’s history, ecosystem, community support, etc., as well as to avoid the overhead of managing anonymized repositories or source code.
Submissions must strictly adhere to the two-column IEEE conference proceedings format. You can find the templates here. LaTeX users should use the following configuration: \documentclass[conference]{IEEEtran}. Microsoft Word users should use the US Letter format template. Papers must not exceed 5 pages, including all text, figures, appendices, and references. All submissions must be in PDF and submitted online by the deadline via the EasyChair link (shared above). All authors, reviewers, and organizers are expected to uphold the IEEE Code of Conduct.
Papers that do not comply with the submission guidelines will be desk-rejected and not be sent to the PC for review.
Submissions that are not in compliance with the required submission format or that are out of the scope of the conference will be desk-rejected.
Publication and Presentation
Upon notification of acceptance, all authors of accepted papers will be asked to complete an IEEE Copyright form and will receive further instructions for preparing their camera-ready versions. Accepted papers will be published in the electronic conference proceedings, which will also be available in the IEEE Digital Library.
At least one author of each accepted paper must register for the conference and present the paper at the conference.
Use of AI and LLMs
Authors should adhere to the guidelines for AI-generated content published by IEEE. IEEE requires all content (including but not limited to figures, text, images, tables, code) generated by AI to be disclosed. The AI system should be identified, and specific sections of the article that utilize AI-generated content should be noted and accompanied by a brief explanation regarding the level of AI system involvement in producing the content. Read more at the link above. The paper chairs will investigate cases brought to their attention.
