Overview

We are excited to invite proposals for research workshops at XP 2026. Workshops play a crucial role in fostering collaboration, generating new insights, and advancing the field of agile software development. They provide a unique platform for researchers and practitioners to explore emerging topics, share experiences, and build lasting connections.

Workshop Goals and Scope

Research workshops at XP 2026 aim to:

  • Develop international collaboration in agile software development research
  • Generate new insights on important topics in the field
  • Create opportunities for in-depth discussions and knowledge exchange
  • Produce valuable outcomes for the Agile community
    Workshops can focus on any topic related to agile software development. We welcome both new topics and those that build on previous workshops. You can find examples of previous workshops on the XP2025 website.

Workshop Formats

Successful workshops typically include a mix of interactive and prepared sessions. Organisers are encouraged to design engaging formats that may include:

  • Interactive discussions and breakout sessions.
  • Short paper presentations
  • Invited keynotes or expert talks
  • Panel discussions
  • Hands-on exercises or tutorials
  • Lightning talks

Workshops are expected to attract 15-40 participants and can be half-day or full-day events. Short papers of up to 8 pages may be included in the post-conference proceedings published by Springer Lecture Notes, provided that the workshop meets the quality criteria. These include three reviews per submission, an acceptance rate of no more than 45%, and the requirement that workshop organisers are not allowed to submit to their own workshop.

Workshops must adhere to the following timeline:

  • Joint call for workshop papers out: December 12, 2025
  • Workshop paper submission deadline: January 23, 2026
  • Preliminary workshop programs ready: February 6, 2026
  • Workshop paper selection by workshop chairs, notification to authors: February 20, 2026
  • Workshop programs ready: March 6, 2026
  • Workshop day at XP2025: April 8, 2026
  • Camera-ready workshop papers and copyright forms uploaded: April 24, 2026

All workshop participants must be registered for the workshop day. Please note there is no additional budget available to workshop organisers. One workshop organiser will receive a complimentary conference registration as compensation.

Submission Guidelines

Please submit your workshop proposal as a PDF (maximum 4 pages), including the following information:

  1. Workshop title (include iteration number if previously conducted)
  2. Organisers’ names, affiliations, and contact information
  3. Potential program committee members (tentative list)
  4. Main motivation and target audience
  5. Workshop description (max 200 words) for the conference website.
  6. Format details:
  • Duration (half-day or full-day)
  • Submission types (short papers, industry experience reports, etc.)
  • Plans for proceedings or summary publication
  • Expected number of participants
  1. Draft agenda and workshop plan
  2. Strategy for soliciting submissions and attracting participants
  3. Any special requirements for room setup
  4. Short bios of workshop organisers (max 100 words per person)

Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on:

  • Relevance and timeliness of the topic to agile software development
  • Potential to generate new insights and foster collaboration
  • Clarity and feasibility of the proposed format and activities
  • Qualifications and diversity of the organising team
  • Plans for participant engagement and interaction
  • Potential for producing publishable outcomes

Organiser Responsibilities

Accepted workshop organisers will:

  • Manage the call for papers (CfP) for their workshop
  • Use the conference submission system for a transparent review process
  • Adhere to the provided timeline for paper submissions and notifications
  • Prepare a short summary of the workshop for post-conference proceedings
  • Ensure all workshop participants are registered for the workshop day
