LASSY 2017
Mon 3 - Thu 6 April 2017 Brussels, Belgium
co-located with ‹Programming› 2017

This page provides information for students who are planning to attend the conference. If this is your first time going to a conference, becoming a student volunteer is a great way to get started: you’ll become familiar with everything that goes on at a conference, and you’ll get to meet new people, from fellow students to leading researchers. We also recommend participating in the Student Research Competition, to give your career in research a boost and get feedback from experts in their fields. Finally, if you’re looking for an affordable place to stay during the conference, several options are available.

Student Volunteer Program

Student volunteers are crucial to help out with the practical aspects of the conference, and ensure that everything runs smoothly for conference attendees and presenters. In return, every student volunteer gets a free registration to the <Programming> 2017 conference. This includes:

  • Access to all events (workshops, symposia, the main conference, ..)
  • Lunches and coffee breaks
  • Access to all social events, including the banquet
  • Your very own <Programming> 2017 student volunteer T-shirt

Several different task assignments are available for student volunteers. This includes providing technical assistance during sessions (setting up mics, projectors, cameras, ..), operating the registration desk, helping and directing conference participants, …

To qualify as a student volunteer, you should be:

  • Enrolled as a Ph.D, Master or Bachelor student during the time of the conference
  • Motivated, punctual and organized
  • Proficient in English

To apply, please send an e-mail to info@programming-conference.org before March 9th, and attach a letter of recommendation from your supervisor (or other faculty member at your institution). This letter should cover your organizational skills, willingness to help, proficiency in English and any other relevant information that will help us in the selection process. Please note that the number of student volunteering positions is limited.

Application deadline: Thu 9 March 2017
Notifications: Fri 10 March 2017

Accomodation on a budget

Aside from several youth hostels in Brussels, we also have a limited number of rooms available in the U-residence, which is located on the VUB campus itself. Single rooms are available at €60/night ; double rooms are €85/night. These are reduced rates; if you want to book a room at this rate you will need to get a voucher code from the conference organisation, please send an e-mail to: info@programming-conference.org

Student Research Competition

The ACM Student Research Competition (SRC), sponsored by Microsoft Research, offers a unique forum for ACM student members at the undergraduate and graduate levels to present their original research before a panel of judges and conference attendees. The SRC gives visibility to up-and-coming young researchers, and offers them an opportunity to discuss their research with experts in their field, get feedback, and to help sharpen communication and networking skills. Moreover, ACM’s SRC program covers expenses up to $500 for all students invited to an SRC. Please see the SRC page for more information.
