Quantum software engineering has wholeheartedly embraced Open-source software in a way that’s similar to Classical software engineering. There are reasons for when organizations would not want to open source their code; such as protecting intellectual property. This usually leads to the closed source code being hosted on a server whereby developers can use the software by making API requests to the server. In such a case, developers need additional documentation or to inspect network traffic to figure out how the APIs function. We show how organizations can leverage OpenAPI for programs they want to keep closed source while not compromising the open collaboration that is crucial to these early days of Quantum computing.
