Name:Cedric Bastoul
Bio:

Cedric Bastoul is chief scientist of distributed and parallel software at Huawei’s Paris Research Center. His research interests are in compiler techniques for optimization and parallelization with a strong emphasis on code restructuring using the polyhedral model.

Cedric Bastoul received his M.Sc. in Computer Science in 2000 and his Ph.D. in Distributed Computing Systems from Pierre et Marie Curie University (now Sorbonne University) in 2004. He served as assistant researcher and lecturer at Versailles Saint-Quentin University then Auvergne University before joining the university of Paris-Sud (now University of Paris-Saclay) as assistant professor in 2005. During his time at Paris-Sud, he has been on leave twice, first in 2009-2010 to join industrial research at Reservoir Labs Inc., New York, as visiting professor, then in 2011-2012 to join CNRS (French National Lab.) as visiting researcher and to take the leadership of the Archi Group, the research team on compilation and architecture at LRI laboratory. In 2013 he became professor at the University of Strasbourg, where he soon take the head of its main Computer Science Department. In 2020 he took a university leave to join Huawei.

Since the start of his career, he continuously advised PhD students, and coauthored more than 50 papers published in some of the most impacting journals and conferences in compilation such as ACM PLDI, ACM POPL, ACM CGO, ACM ICS, IEEE PACT, SC, four of these publications received special awards. He created or maintains several well know tools in the high-level compilation community such as the code generator CLooG which was used directly or reimplemented in major compilers (GCC, LLVM, IBM XL). His latest research activities include human-compiler interaction for semi-automatic program parallelization, as well as mixing static and dynamic optimization techniques in high-level compilers to smartly trade accuracy for speed.
