Bio:

Philip East has worked in computer science education since 1980. He received his doctorate in computer science education in 1984 and has been teaching computer literacy, computer science, and computer science education at the University of Northern Iowa since 1985. He has published and presented on computer science education and teaching in various local, state, regional, national, and international venues (including ICUE, CSTA, SIGCSE, ICER, Computer Science Education, ASEE, & ISTE/NECC—over 225 times) and co-produced 6 Google CS4HS workshops. He is currently working on an NSF CSforAll RPP grant that has produced professional development for K12 CS teachers leading to a CS teaching endorsement in Iowa. He has served the CS education community in a variety of roles–Iowa CUE (reviewing, drafted CS certification proposal), ISTE (reviewing, conference planning), ACM (curricular review/recommendation, Precollege Committee), ISTE SIGCS (journal editor, President), CSTA (conference committee), SIGCSE (reviewing, conference committee, doctoral consortium discussant), ITiCSE (reviewing), ICER (reviewing).
