Dr. Scott Franklin is an Associate Professor of Practice in Computer Science at Texas Tech University, where he has taught since 2024. Before joining Tech, he spent more than two decades at Wayland Baptist University as a professor of computer science and mathematics, and served there as Associate Dean of the School of Math and Sciences (2010–2012), Director of Online Programs (2012–2015), and Dean of the School of Math and Sciences (2015–2019). He holds a B.S. in Mathematics and a B.A. in Religion from Wayland Baptist University (1998), earned both his M.S. and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Texas Tech, and recently completed an M.S. in Computer Science from Georgia Tech with an emphasis in Machine Learning.
His research interests include deep learning applications such as Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs), computer vision, reinforcement learning, stochastic partial differential equations, spline methods, and bioinformatics — though his greatest passion is Computer Science education and equipping students for a successful and fulfilling career.
