Stephan van Schaik is a PhD student in the VUSec group at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He is interested in low-level affairs such as processor micro-architectures, embedded hardware and operating systems, and more specifically how these can be exploited within software-based attacks.

Before his PhD, he was already involved with the VUSec group during his MSc in Computer Science with the specialisation of Computer Systems Security. For his master thesis he published two papers: “RevAnC: A Framework for Reverse Engineering Hardware Page Table Caches” at EuroSec ’17 and “Malicious Management Unit: Why Stopping Cache Attacks in Software is Harder Than You Think” at USENIX Security ’18. He received his MSc in Computer Science as a joint degree from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the Universiteit van Amsterdam. He received his BSc in Computer Science from the Universiteit van Amsterdam.
