Prof. Ernesto Pimentel holds the BSc. and MSc degrees in Mathematics (1988), and the PhD degree in Computer Science (1993). He is Full Professor at the University of Malaga since 2003. He was the Vice Chancellor for Studies (2020-2023) of the University of Malaga and, previously, Dean of the Informatics School and Head of the Dept. of Computer Science).
He is leading the Group of Software Engineering at UMA and the SCENIC research team (Service and Component Engineering for Internet Computing), and is involved in a number of national and international research projects as responsible and senior researcher. In addition to his research activity he also has occupied several relevant positions as member of the managing team of the Spanish National Research Program for Communication and Information Technologies (2001-2004), Spanish representative in the executive committee of the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (2003-2009), member of the Ex-ante Accreditation Committee for Master Degrees in the Engineering field (2008-2013), Chair of the EURO-INF Accreditation Board of ANECA -National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation of Spain- (from 2014), member of the Executive Board of EQANIE -European Quality Assurance Network for Informatics Education- (from 2018), or President of the Spanish Conference of Informatics Schools’ Deans (CODDII), from 2017 until 2019.
His research activity is focused on Service-Oriented Computing, Component-Based Software Engineering, Cloud Computing, and Internet of Things. He has participated in many conferences as member of the program committees, member of the organizing and steering committees, and chair. Most of his work has been published more than 200 papers in international journals and conferences.
