Geoff Kaufman was educated in social psychology. A good portion of his work involves designing and evaluating interventions (including games, storytelling platforms, and communication tools) to surface and reduce unconscious bias and/or to provide a space for members of stereotype-targeted groups to express and receive support for their own experiences with bias or inequity. He has been actively involved in efforts at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) to reduce unconscious bias in hiring and admissions, and he is currently researching investigating ways to cultivate belongingness and counteract stereotype threat in STEM classroom contexts. He received his Ph.D. in social psychology from Ohio State University and his B.A. in psychology from Carnegie Mellon.
