This assessment model is supported by software developed by Andrew and his team and has been used by 230k users across 5 universities over the last 9 years.
Andrew has extensive experience teaching computer science and software engineering units at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, for campus and online students. His focus has been on teaching introductory programming, as this plays a critical role in setting students up for success when studying digital technologies. Teaching in this area, he has created a range of digital solutions to enhance learning experiences for students such as the SplashKit framework that empowers students to create engaging applications when first learning to use a general-purpose programming language. Associated with this, Andrew has created popular open educational resources including video tutorials accessed over a million times. Andrew also received multiple citations for outstanding contributions to student learning: OLT Citation assessment and feedback approaches in 2014 and ALTC Citation for strategies that inspire and motivate students in 2009.
As Associate Head of School (Learning), Andrew has been involved in the leadership of curriculum design, including introducing the first Artificial Intelligence degrees in Australia, using the FutureLearn MOOC platform to deliver Deakin’s Master of Cyber and related degrees, and establishing innovative micro-credential-based degrees in emerging technologies leadership.
