Bio:

I am a Ph.D. student in Human-Centered Computing at the University of Utah. I am working with Dr. Eliane Wiese in the Computer Science Education lab. My research pertains to code quality and control structures students use. Our ultimate goal is to equip students with the necessary skills to become expert programmers who can produce code that is not only functional but also of high quality and maintainability. Therefore, we develop code smell detectors, and we examine students’ programs to identify common and pedagogically important structural issues. We also examine whether students’ use of less-readable structures indicates larger conceptual issues with their understanding or has other reasons, such as a disagreement with experts on what structure is more readable.
