Sigma Jahan is a promising researcher and academic leader pursuing her Ph.D. in Computer Science at Dalhousie University. As a third-year doctoral candidate, she focuses on advancing the fields of AI reliability and explainability. Her research excellence is recognized through support from Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Graduate Studies, the Faculty of Computer Science, and NSERC research grants. Her scholarly work has garnered attention in prestigious venues, with publications in the International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE) and the International Conference on Software Analysis, Evolution, and Reengineering (SANER). She continues contributing to the field with ongoing submissions to Empirical Software Engineering (EMSE).
In the classroom, Sigma has demonstrated exceptional teaching abilities, serving as a Teaching Assistant and Head TA for more than 17 graduate and undergraduate computer science courses. Her dedication to education earned her the Best Teaching Assistant award in 2024, and she has secured positions as a Sessional Instructor for Project Courses in Summer and Fall 2024.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Sigma is deeply committed to community leadership and engagement. As President of the Dalhousie Association of Graduate Students (DAGS), she advocates tirelessly for the graduate student community. Her role as Graduate Student Ambassador Leader for the Faculty of Computer Science allows her to represent and promote the faculty’s interests. Additionally, as an OpenThinker, she contributes to public discourse through her engaging blog posts, bridging the gap between academic research and public understanding.
Besides academics, she enjoys travelling and visited 20 countries so far!
