Call for Tutorials and Technical Briefings
ACM Joint European Software Engineering Conference and Symposium on the Foundations of Software Engineering (ESEC/FSE 2026)
July 5–9, 2026 | Montreal, Canada
The ESEC/FSE 2026 Tutorials and Technical Briefings track invites proposals for high-quality sessions that provide practical insights, foundational understanding, or exposure to emerging topics relevant to the software engineering research and practitioner communities.
These sessions are designed to be engaging and educational, helping participants—ranging from graduate students to experienced researchers and industry professionals—develop skills, gain technical depth, or explore new directions.
Scope
We invite proposals on a broad spectrum of topics, including (but not limited to):
- Empirical Software Engineering
- Program Analysis, Verification, and Testing
- Software Engineering for AI/ML Systems
- Developer Productivity and Tooling
- Software Maintenance and Evolution
- Human and Social Aspects of SE
- Software Architectures and Design
- Research Methods in SE (e.g., grounded theory, NLP for SE, causal inference)
The following topics are particularly welcome and encouraged:
- Digital Twins, Prompt Engineering, and Robotics—including collaborations between academic researchers and industry partners working on robotics systems.
Session Types
- Tutorial (180 minutes): In-depth presentations on mature or broad topics, split into two 90-minute segments.
- Technical Briefing (90 minutes): Focused presentations on emerging or specialized topics.
- Hands-On Session (90 or 180 minutes): Tool-based, interactive workshops with participant exercises.
Hybrid sessions will be supported to enhance the broader participation of community members.
Audience
Tutorials and briefings should cater to a diverse audience:
- Graduate students
- Early-career researchers
- Senior researchers
- Industry practitioners
Proposals should specify the assumed background knowledge and target audience expertise level.
Proposal Format
Each submission (max 3 pages, excluding slides) must include:
- Title
- Type: Tutorial, Technical Briefing, or Hands-On
- Presenter(s): Full names, affiliations, and email addresses
- Abstract (max 300 words) – For the FSE 2026 website
- Aims and Objectives – What the session will teach or achieve
- Target Audience & Prerequisites
- Relevance – Why this is timely and of interest to the SE community
- Session Format – Lecture, discussion, group activity, hands-on, etc.
- Preferred Duration – 90 or 180 minutes
- Outline – Topics and approximate timing
- Key Learning Outcomes
- Presenter Bio(s) (max 250 words each) – Emphasize expertise and teaching experience
- Tutorial History – Prior venues, years, attendance (if applicable)
- Technical Requirements – e.g., software tools, internet, room setup
Submission Format

Submit a single PDF containing the proposal and at least 3 representative sample slides.

Important Dates

Publication and Visibility
Accepted presenters may publish a 2-page summary in the ESEC/FSE 2026 Companion Proceedings (ACM Digital Library). Presenters will also be asked to submit a short (1–2 minute) video teaser to help publicize the session online.
Conditions
- All presenters must register for the conference.
- ESEC/FSE will not provide financial compensation for tutorials.
- Submissions must not be commercial in nature—strictly no sales pitches.
- Sessions with insufficient registration may be canceled.
