VORTEX 2017
Sun 18 - Fri 23 June 2017 Barcelona, Spain
co-located with ECOOP 2017

The conference venue will be the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), one of the strongest universities in Spain, specialised in the fields of engineering, science, and architecture. UPC has about 27,000 students, including bachelor, master and doctorate, and about 3,000 teaching and research staff. The university is distributed over eight campuses, three of them in Barcelona. The main one, Campus Nord, is where the conference will take place.

The Campus Nord is located in the east of Barcelona as is accessible by metro lines L3 (Palau Reial station) and L9 (Zona Universitaria station).

The Facultat d’Informàtica de Barcelona (FIB) is the school in charge of the Computer Science studies. Currently, it has about 2,000 bachelor and master students (PhD students are associated to the University departments). The FIB is located in Campus Nord, and so are the main departments involved in Computer Science education and research: the Department of Computer Architecture and the Department of Computer Science.

As shown in the following map the campus is an array of buildings where the rows are denoted by letters A, B, C, D and the columns are denoted by numbers from 1 to 6. In addition, there are some other buildings surrounding this array which have some specific name, like the Vertex Building, located in the top right edge of the array, where the majority of the conference activities will take place, including the main invited lectures at the Auditorium. Other places that are important for our conferences are the Aula Master, located at the building A3, Sala Agora, located at C3 (both at the lowest entrance level) and the Sala d’Actes of the School of Civil Engineering, located at C2.

The campus also includes the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), which manages MareNostrum, located at the Torre Girona chapel, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and, according to IEEE Spectrum, the world’s most beautiful computing machine.

Internet Access

The UPC is part of eduroam, so conference attendees will be able to use their university accounts for Internet access.

For those that do not have access to eduroam, one may get Internet access through the XSF-UPC network, following these steps:
