Programming Opportunities for the Global Biodiversity Observation NetworkRemote
Mon 13 Oct 2025 11:00 - 11:20 at Peony NE - Programming for biodiversity and climate Chair(s): Dominic Orchard
Our talk will lay out the overall state of global biodiversity observations via the global Biodiversity Observation Networks (BONs) community of practice. We describe the digital infrastructure behind them, and offer a set of provocations and opportunities towards motivating computer scientists to contribute towards some of the challenges. We believe that a wide array of contributions from programming languages, distributed systems and security all have a role to play in the meeting the urgent challenge to conserve biodiversity in the coming years.
