Bio:

Guido Wirtz received a diploma in computer science (Dipl.-Inform., 1985) and a doctoral degree from the University of Bonn (Dr.rer.nat., 1990) and afterwards a habilitation degree (Venia Legendi ‘Informatik’) from the University of Siegen (1995). He worked 6 years as an associate professor of Applied Computer Science at the University of Münster. Since 2002, Guido is a full professor for Practical Computer Science and the founder of the Distributed Systems Group at the University of Bamberg, Germany. From 2007 through 2009 he acted as dean of the Faculty of Information Systems and Applied Computer Sciences. Guido was a member of the Chief Information Office of his university (2007 - 09/2020) and also a member of the CIO board of Bavarian Universities; from 2011 to 2016 he acted as the chairman of the board of Bavarian University CIOs. From 10/2011 through 09/2012 he was the Vice President Research and from 10/2012 to 09/2020 he was the Vice President Technology and Innovation of the University of Bamberg.From 10/2021 to 09/2023 he acted (again) as the dean of the faculty for Information Systems and Applied Computer Sciences of the University of Bamberg. From 2016 to 2021 he was a member of the scientific advisory board of the Bavarian Research Foundation (Bayerische Forschungsstiftung) and from 2019 until 2021 he acted as the chair of the scientific advisory board.

His research interests are centered on issues regarding the software development for complex, esp. distributed, systems on all levels. This includes design methods, visual languages and tools for distributed systems development as well as middleware, Service-Oriented Architectures and cloud computing. His current interests are in the seamless transition from business processes to their implementation in a SOA and cloud context, in new approaches for the Internet-of-Things like Edge- and Fog-Computing as well as in modern cloud techniques like, e.g. Serverless computing. Guido is the author or co-author of more than 150 publications in international refereed journals and conferences. He is a long-time member of the German computer society GI, the IEEE-CS and the ACM.
