Sruti is Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur. Her research interests are in end-user programming, where her main goal is to lower barriers to programming for computer end users (e.g., scientists). She also maintains active interests in information seeking, professional software development and human behavioral theories as relating to programming and software development. Prior to her academic position, she was a HCI researcher at Microsoft Research, Cambridge, UK, where she investigated human aspects of spreadsheet programming and built tools to make spreadsheet data analysis more accessible. She obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Oregon State University under the supervision of Dr. Margaret Burnett. For her dissertation, she developed the theoretical underpinnings of human interaction with versions, and specifically developer interactions with software versions and version control tools. Her work has won Best Paper Awards in both SE and HCI conferences.
