Panathon 2019
Mon 15 - Fri 19 July 2019 Hammersmith, London, United Kingdom
co-located with ECOOP 2019

The hotel is in Hammersmith, one of London’s busiest areas, just to the West of the Centre of London. As well as shops and restaurants in the immediate vicinity, the River Thames is a 5 minute walk South; the pubs, bars, and restaurants of Chiswick High Road a 15 minute walk West; the largest shopping centre in Europe, Westfield, a 15 minute walk North; the museums of South Kensington a 10 minute tube journey to the East; and London’s famous West End, including Covent Garden, a 20 minute tube journey to the East.

ECOOP and Curry On do not have a room rate at the Novotel — attendees should feel free to stay wherever best suits them. Please refer to the accommodation page for nearby hotels that may help those unfamiliar with London find suitable accommodation.

The Novotel has excellent transport links with 4 tube lines (District, Piccadilly, Hammersmith & City, Circle) and extensive bus connections. The nearest and fastest airport is Heathrow (40 minutes via the Piccadilly line; do not take the Heathrow Express which is more expensive and no faster for this journey); other airports include Gatwick (60 minutes), City (60 minutes), Stansted (80 minutes), and Luton (90 minutes). The Eurostar train to Europe arrives into St Pancras (30 minutes). For travel planning, we recommend CityMapper (either its website or mobile app), using the hotel's postcode (W6 8DR) as the destination.

There Are Two Hammersmith Tube Stations

Confusingly, there are two physically separate Hammersmith tube stations, serving entirely different lines, separated by a 60 second above ground walk. Most people will come into the District and Piccadilly Line station: take the Hammersmith Broadway exit, turn right on to Hammersmith Road, then after 2 minutes turn right onto Shortlands. If, instead, you come into the Hammersmith & City and Circle line station, exit left on to Hammersmith Road, then after 2 minutes turn right onto Shortlands. If at any point you’re unsure about where you need to go, Transport for London staff at any tube station will happily give you advice.

Public Transport Tickets

Travel in and around London can be done via cash, though this often attracts higher charges. You can buy an Oyster card, or use your normal contactless debit or credit card. Note that travel from Luton and Stansted airports and *Express airport trains (i.e. Heathrow Express, Gatwick Express) require mainline rail tickets (though non-express trains from Heathrow and Gatwick can be used with Oyster or contactless debit/credit cards). There are multiple ticket machines at all stations, which accept all major credit and debit cards. In general, taxis are an efficient but expensive option in London: public transport to and from airports is almost always faster and always much cheaper.
