ECOOP on a Budget
This page has information for students. ECOOP should be an affordable and enriching experience, if you have any questions or need assistance contact the organizers.
First-time to ECOOP? A big conference can be daunting, especially if you don’t know anyone. The best way to break the ice is to become a Student Volunteer (SV). As a SV you’ll assist the organizers, meet the speakers and talk to other students. Many of the researchers you will meet have been SVs themselves.
Student Volunteer Program
Student volunteers (SVs) are vital to the efficient operation and continued success of ECOOP. The SV program is a chance for students from around the world to participate in the conferences whilst assisting us in preparing and running the event and in return are given free registration and access to all sessions. For more information or to apply, visit the Students Volunteers page.
Doctoral Symposium and Summer School
Another activity we encourage students to sign up for is the Doctoral Symposium. This is an opportunity for getting advice from renowned researchers in the field.
The ECOOP Summer School aims to encourage graduate students and senior undergraduate students to pursue careers in research on topics related to the ECOOP conference. The School brings together leading researchers in programming languages, object-orientation, and teaching from academia and industry to provide technical sessions on important research and mentoring sessions on how to prepare for a research career. The School aims to engage students in a process of imagining how they might contribute to our research community. We especially encourage women and under-represented minority students to attend.
Travel for Cheap
A very limited number of travel grants are available to cover a portion (but not all) of your travel costs. The major source of funding for these is the NSF and targets US residents. A much smaller amount of funding is available through ECOOP’s industrial sponsors. The key to cheap (or convenient) travel is booking well in advance!
