IT systems in IoT systems support interactions between differently and distributed things to solve application-specific problems. To this end, IT systems must be deployed in IoT landscapes on software and hardware level. Due to the heterogeneous and distributed nature of IoT systems, various IT system deployment architectures are conceivable, which meet or not application-specific requirements. To develop required deployment architectures, many interrelated decisions must be considered holistically. Thus, this is complex and error prone.

This paper summaries a running PhD project addressing the development of IT system deployment architectures for IoT systems with a cross-application applicable process. The process should enable to develop requirements-compliant ones targeted. Acceptance criteria concretize the expected process. The planned evaluation, involving applications along three application examples, is derived. Related work shows, that different disciplines’ focus on deployment architectures do not meet the holistic need. The methodology, in which problems regarding the development of deployment architectures are captured in detail and then a solution is derived, is presented. An iterative process, in which deployment architectures are supplemented and evaluated against requirements, outlines a solution idea. Results achieved are reflected and used to motivate discussions about practical relevance and acceptance of the intended process.
