Workshop - Emerging Software Engineering Education
Thu 22 Feb 2024 16:00 - 18:00 at Room 4 - R110 - Workshop 1
Software Engineering is fast evolving to meet the needs of modern-day customers and the challenges to supporting unstoppable technological innovations. A well-trained and highly-skilled workforce is required to push this evolution forward; hence, it has become the critical element for a successful future of software engineering. Inculcating the art and science of software engineering in the young and old demands introducing out-of-the-box teaching methods at all levels of education dissemination. Software engineering represents one of the most change-prone educational contents in the computer science curricula at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as a plethora of new software development process models, methods, and tools are unleashed each day. The contents of a typical software engineering course must cover various processes, methods, and tools needed to support the development, operation, and maintenance of large-scale software systems. In addition, one of the key focus areas of these courses must be the various interpersonal and communication skills desired for a fully accomplished software engineer.
The 6th edition of Workshop on Emerging Software Engineering Education (WESEE 2024) focuses on GenAI (Generative AI) in education. Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools have become increasingly prevalent in software development, assisting various managerial and technical project activities. The GenAI tools can support student learning in various ways, such as brainstorming ideas, obtaining real-time writing feedback, and assisting instructors in developing course materials.
WESEE 2024 will be a discussion-oriented workshop on GenAI in education with two invited talks, one activity-based session, and a discussion session in the half-day workshop.
