At Obeo, we focus on model-driven engineering and open-source technologies. Over the past 15 years, our tools—such as Acceleo, Eclipse Sirius, EMF Compare, Ecoretools, and many others—have been essential in the research and academic communities. These tools have enabled the creation of domain-specific modeling tools, advancing numerous engineering fields and fostering the emergence of open-source solutions like Capella.

Recently, we’ve turned our attention to web-based modeling technologies. This shift led to the development of Sirius Web, an open-source project. Sirius Web has been adopted in Papyrus Web and, more recently, in Eclipse SysON. Despite its rapid growth, research utilization of Sirius Web is still limited. The fast pace of development, the extensive features required for a complete modeling environment, and the lack of examples and documentation contribute to this underutilization.

In this talk, I will introduce Sirius Web and its recent features, highlighting its principles and applications. Additionally, I will showcase SysON, an open-source SysMLv2 modeling environment, illustrating how Sirius Web facilitates the transition to a new generation of tools and the trade-offs we faced during its development.

Since joining Obeo as an intern in its early days, Cédric Brun has grown alongside the company, making significant contributions to its development and success. Now, as CEO, his focus remains on learning and innovating in modeling technologies. In the Eclipse community, Cédric has been a familiar face since 2006, engaging in various roles including committer, project lead, mentor, and program committee member for Eclipse conferences. His initiatives, particularly Eclipse Sirius, have profoundly impacted the field, leading to the creation of tools used globally by engineers and architects. Cédric’s approach to leadership at Obeo is grounded in collaboration, with a shared goal of developing technologies that enhance understanding and facilitate the building of tomorrow’s world, with Open-Source at its heart.
