"Business Process Model Notation (BPMN) is a notation standardized by the Object Management Group (OMG). BPMN is a widely used language to describe processes and interactions between different participants in a complex organization. A process consists of a sequence of tasks executed by several participants to fulfil a specific mission. A set of complex alternative constructions in the model allows exploring the possible variations in the scenarios.

BPMN is used to describe a wide variety of systems such as manufacturing plant, air traffic control, satellite constellations, or army forces coordination. Once the logical functional verification is done, optimization of the time and cost is one of the main objectives of such a model.

Activities in a process take time, cost money, and require resources to be achieved. This non-functional information can be added to the BPMN process. It is organized and stored based on the BPSim recommendation. This non-functional information can have statistical values. Statistical information can also be added to each branch of the execution path (gateways).

PragmaDev Process is a BPMN and BPSim tool, result of two research projects: ““VeriMoB”” financed by the French Army, and ““OneWay”” financed by the DGAC (French Civil Aviation Authority). PragmaDev Process aims at verifying and optimizing business processes and their associated resources.
