The integration of Internet of Things (IoT) with edge intelligence offers significant benefits, enhancing efficiency and productivity across various industries. However, the heterogeneity of IoT devices, which differ in capabilities, communication protocols, and data formats, presents a significant challenge in making the data from diverse sources readily consumable by business applications. Our approach is transforming manufacturing by using low-code and edge intelligence to enable flexible, cost-effective production of highly individualized products, moving away from large-scale specialized factories. We introduce the Continuous Semantic Integration (CSI) layer as a mediator between IoT devices and business applications. CSI builds on top of standardized semantic interfaces. These interfaces provide unified access that incorporates semantic metadata about connected devices and ensure that the capabilities and data of these devices are described in a standardized, machine-interpretable way. Specifically, we enable low-code business application development, a declarative approach for the creation and orchestration of distributed industrial IoT systems, reducing overall development time and complexity.
