What started as an itch to fix a simple printer has fundamentally changed the way we build software systems. In addition, open-source has left its mark on our common vocabulary indicating almost anything where people participate around a common goal. But like anything in the world, open-source is not a fixed stationary thing but constantly evolving. In my presentation, I’ll talk about some of my experiences within the changing industry, go through some of the highs and lows, and suggest some new needs or directions where the open-source paradigm could help not only the industry but the way we interact and work together.
