Bio:

Birgit Penzenstadler is assistant professor at the California State University Long Beach where she leads the Resilience Lab. She has researched the relation between sustainability and software engineering for over 5 years and focusses on artifact-based requirements engineering and requirements engineering for sustainability. The expertise of her group includes requirements elicitation, analysis, and documentation techniques, for example sustainability goal modeling, as well as artefact models, quality modeling, tool support, and process improvement. She is the main organizer of the workshop series “Requirements Engineering for Sustainable Systems”. Furthermore, she is a founding member of the “Karlskrona Manifesto on Sustainability Design” working group, which her group actively contributes to (see www.sustainabilitydesign.org). She has also held multiple seminar series as well as numerous guest lectures (locally and abroad) on software engineering for sustainability. Up to now, she has authored and co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications. She holds a Master’s degree from the Universität Passau, Germany, and a doctoral degree as well as a habilitation degree from the Technische Universität München (TUM), Germany.
