Description of Registration Categories

Regular

Regular attendees participating in XP 2026, with no accepted submissions.

Author

Authors with an accepted paper in the Research Track, either a Full Paper or a Short Paper.

  • Each accepted Research Track paper requires one Author registration, regardless of the author’s status (e.g., student, speaker, or low- or middle-income participant).
  • Authors with more than one accepted paper in the Research Track must complete one Author registration per accepted paper.

Speaker (20% discount)

Participants with at least one accepted contribution in any XP 2026 track other than the Research Track, including (but not limited to):

  • Education and Training, Research Workshops, Industry & Practice, Experience Reports, Agile Games, Posters, Lightning Talks, and Open Space.

  • This category applies exclusively to non-Research Track contributions. Research Track authors must register under the Author category.

Student Registration²

Students attending XP 2026 without an accepted Research Track paper.

  • Student registration does not replace Author registration.

  • If a student has an accepted paper in the Research Track, an Author registration is still required for each accepted paper.

(2) Proof of student status must be submitted during registration. Applicants must provide one of the following documents: an updated enrollment certificate (issued by the institution), a current student ID card showing validity dates, or an official letter from the institution confirming active student status.

Low- and Middle-Income Speaker (50% discount)³

Speakers with at least one accepted contribution in any XP 2026 track other than the Research Track who are from and currently live and study or conduct research in a low- or middle-income country, as defined by the United Nations.

Low- and Middle-Income Attendee (50% discount)³

Attendees without accepted contributions in the Research Track who are from and currently live and study or conduct research in a low- or middle-income country, as defined by the United Nations.

Important Clarification on Category Precedence

  • If a participant has an accepted paper in the Research Track, the Author category always applies, regardless of:
    • student status;
    • speaker status in another track, or;
    • eligibility for low- or middle-income discounts.
  • Low- and Middle-Income categories apply only to non-Research Track registrations (Speakers or Attendees).

Note on Low- and Middle-Income Categories

Participants registering under a low- and middle-Income category must:

  • Be from and currently live in, study in or conduct research in a low- or middle-income country, as defined by the United Nations.
  • Eligible countries are listed in the World Economic Situation and Prospects 2024 report, on page 137.

(3) For the Low Income Country category, applicants must submit:

  • Their current country of residence (mandatory on the application form)
  • ID showing nationality or residence (passport, national ID, etc.)
  • Recent proof of residence in their name (utility bill or rental agreement)

Author Registration Policy

Contributions accepted in tracks other than the Research Track must be registered under the Speaker category.

Additional Notes for Authors

  • Author registration is required for each accepted paper.
Authors with more than one accepted paper in the Research Track must complete one Author registration per accepted paper.
  • The Author registration fee applies exclusively to papers accepted in the Research Track (Full and Short Papers).
  • Author registration must be completed by the official deadline for the paper to be included in the program and proceedings.

Author registration deadline (Research Track): February 18, 2026.

Example:
If an author (or author team) has two accepted papers in the Research Track, two Author registrations must be completed.
