MODELS 2023
Sun 1 - Fri 6 October 2023 Västerås, Sweden
Wed 4 Oct 2023 16:10 - 16:30 at 302 - Session 3: System Engineering

In this talk I provide a short overview of the current state of practice of the use of model-based systems and software engineering in the European space industry. We will high-light the challenges and solutions to deploy MBSE in space mission design and analysis and how we move forward as a community to realize the vision of digitalization of our engineering workflows. This provides challenges at practical, tactical, strategic and even political levels that all have to be addressed at the same time, in order to successfully implement MBSE in our space eco-system. Noteworthy in this context is the heterogeneity of the market place, with many tool solutions and methodologies available, which are adopted with different levels of maturity, and stakeholders in the supply chain with a high variance in competence levels. This requires also investments in training, standards for semantic interoperability, the embedding thereof in accepted engineering processes and building a community to continuously promote knowledge exchange and innovation.
