Bio:

Born, much to his surprise, in Dunfermline (Dùn Phàrlain) the ancient capital of Scotland; one of the most important ancient Scottish capitals until the time of James VI of Scotland (James I of England) and the Union of the Crowns in 1603. Incidentally, it is also the birthplace of Andrew Carnegie and the resting place of Robert the Bruce who was buried in Dunfermline Abbey in 1329 minus his heart which is buried in Melrose Abbey.

Venter’s is a Reader in Software Engineering at the University of Huddersfield. He is a founding member of the Sustainability Design Alliance (www.sustainabilitydesign.org) and co-author of the Karlskrona Manifesto for Sustainability Design (https://www.sustainabilitydesign.org/karlskrona-manifesto/).

He is the course leader for the Software Engineering programme and leads the newly established Centre for Sustainable Software Engineering.

Venters is also a visiting academic at CERN and is associated with the ATLAS project and Beam Instrumentation Group.

Venter received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Manchester (U.K). He is a member of IEEE and ACM and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
