Horst is a Professor at RWTH Aachen University and head of the Software Construction research group. He received a Diploma in computer science and economics from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. Then he was employed as a research assistant at ETH Zurich and the University of Stuttgart. Horst received a doctorate in software architecture prototyping from the University of Stuttgart in 1993. Afterwards, Horst was a project manager at the Union Bank of Switzerland in Zurich and a researcher at the ABB Corporate Research Center in Heidelberg, Germany. Horst has been a lecturer at the Thai German Graduate School of Engineering (TGGS), Bangkok, a Visiting Professor at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor Bahru, and an Adjunct Lecturer at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Seri Iskandar, Malaysia. Horst is a senior member of IEEE.
