ESEM 2024: Call for student volunteers
The 18th International Symposium on Empirical Software Engineering and Measurement (ESEM 2024, https://conf.researchr.org/home/esem-2024) invites PhD students to apply as Student Volunteers. Student volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring the success of the conference events. Being a student volunteer at ESEM 2024 is a great opportunity to meet with academic and industrial researchers and practitioners in the area of empirical software engineering. Volunteering at ESEM 2024 is available to PhD students from all over the world. The conference will take place October 24-25, 2024, in the beautiful city of Barcelona. We are looking for volunteers who can help onsite.
Benefits
- Free registration to ESEM 2024, with the following exception:
- In case the Student Volunteer is the sole attendee representing an accepted paper at any ESEM 2024 track, a full registration to ESEM will be required.
- Free accommodation in the RESA-Torre Girona Student Residence, located close to the event’ site, from 23th to 25th October (two nights) (the room will be shared with another student volunteer).
- ESEM 2024 Student Volunteer T-shirt, all attendee gifts, meals and coffee breaks during the conference, and social events.
- A great opportunity to meet and talk about research or your interests with academic and industrial researchers as well as practitioners.
- Build connections with future colleagues.
Responsibilities
- On Wednesday 23rd: Preparations before the start of the conference (preparing conference bags, preparing conference badges, etc.)
- During the conference, responsibilities include:
- Registration duties (helping attendees to register, etc.)
- Technical assistance to speakers and attendees
- Providing directions to various locations at the conference.
- Providing assistance to the conference management and secretariat staff.
- Contributing to the overall smooth running of the conference and social events.
Travelling
- Student Volunteers are responsible for their own travel arrangements. Students are supposed to arrive during the morning of Wednesday 23rd to collaborate with preparations.
- Student volunteers are responsible for obtaining the necessary visas for travel to Spain. Upon request, we can provide a support letter for your visa application.
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled as a PhD at the time of the conference.
- Must be proficient in English. Knowledge of a second language, such as French, German or Spanish, will be valuable although not required.
- No previous SV experience is required, but we are looking for enthusiastic and reliable people.

Please send the following documents:
- Short CV (1 page). This document should be uploaded directly through the application form above.
- A recommendation letter from your academic supervisor or other faculty members at your institution. This recommendation must be emailed by the student’s supervisor to the Student Volunteers chair (matias.martinez@upc.edu) with the mandatory subject “ESEM 2024 SV Reference for
” by the faculty member you indicate in the application form. The letter should cover your organisational skills, proficiency in English, and anything else that will help us to select you as a Student Volunteer.

Application (including recommendation letters) is currently open. Please note that the due date is August 20th, 2024.
